DLC coating for mechanical components and plastic molding

DLC Lafer is a carbon-based coating: the very low application temperature, friction coefficient amongst the lowest of existing coatings, the elevated H/E ratio and excellent resistance to wear and fatigue are only some of the principal characteristics which put this coating at the head of the field compared to its competitiors. Due to its extremely low friction coefficient it finds use in the most demanding applications in the racing and aeronautics sectors. This coating has excellent anti-adherent properties, and for this reason it is in fact often used as an optimal substitute for PTFE (Teflon) boasting more advantages: non-toxicity, the same friction coefficient, increased hardness, excellent adhesion.
In order to achieve this effect, sometimes it is not enough to just limit the friction coefficient, but the incompatibility between the coating chemicals and those of the product being molded is necessary: in this regard DLC Lafer also achieves excellent results.

Principal applications

  • components which are subjected to friction and high abrasive wear
  • coatings for ABS, Polyethylene, PC and PET molds
  • beryllium copper alloy punches
  • tools for milling plastics
  • coatings for camshafts, tappets, piston pins, sockets
  • components for automated machines in the food sector
  • wood machining
  • deformation and cutting aluminium alloy
  • food applications: biocompatible for contact with food (REG EU 1935/2004)
  • not cytotoxic (ISO10993-5:2009)
