PVD-CVD Coatings:Lafer is a certified Coating Center tuned to excellence and specialized in mechanical coatings on tools, moulds and components, with an only production site in Piacenza. In the 2008 we coated 18.000pcs in average per day, both HSS and HM: about 3.600 round tools (TiN, Tinalox, Exxtral), 6.550 moulds and components (Superlattice, CarbonLafer, DLC Lafer), 6.700 inserts (Tinalox, Alox, TiN, Red Speed), 150 hobs and shaper cutters (TiN, Exxtral, Hyperlox) of which about 65% is from recoating process with systematical decoating operation performed every time, even for HM hobs. We have dedicated production lines for mills, drills, inserts and hobs. All the production plants are extremely recent; in year 2006-2007 we introduced 6 new coating units of which 3 in exchange to the machines running in production for more than six years. Lafer has introduced the concept of "Energy Saving" on coated parts, optimizing all the production processes related to tools surfaces that, together with the coating, give an important contribution to the reduction of the cost/piece.
Since 2009 Lafer had introduced the new coating DLC PVD.

Decoating: we have several automatic lines for the decoating of HSS substrates and an exclusive plant for the decoating of HM of any grade or type.

Sharpening: tools coating service is completed by an internal sharpening department for round tools, hobs and shaper cutters. We offer a specialized resharpening service dedicated only to the tools which will be coated in our company. The sharpening machines are characterized by advanced technology and provided with automatic tool magazine: an exclusive tool magazine is also used for hobs sharpening. In this company area we have also a dedicated metrological room for the certification of round tools by Walter Toolcheck and hobs by Wenzel gears measuring machine; the correct rounding of the cutting edges is performed by Taylor-Hobson Talysurf profilometer.

Financial trend: our trend in the last years has always been positive. The total turnover of Lafer in year 2008 has been of 39.8 mln € of which 10.1 mln € are coming from the Coating Division. The increase in turnover of year 2008 has been +4.7%. In the last three years there have been important investments for about 3 mln €in research, quality and in advanced technologies.
