The application of coatings to engine components ensures greater resistance to high temperatures, a reduction in loss of power due to friction, an increase in contact pressures and a reduction of wear.

Lafer has developed a complete range of very high-performance surface coatings, to provide each engine component with the best coating for its specific function.

AUTOMOTIVE - RACING

For many years, the R&D department has focused on perfecting a production process that has allowed Lafer to offer customers a 360° service.  

Lafer coatings improve performance and ensure an increase in the service life of components by reducing friction coefficients, consequently reducing the need for lubricants and improving their resistance, duration and reliability.

Lafer has developed a series of customized processes to produce results that can surpass conventional coatings.

The entire range of services is carried out in-house in the surface engineering department. For each stage of the process, systems with various capacities give us flexibility to process both individual pieces and large series components, while always guaranteeing the maximum possible quality and the repeatability of results.

DLC LAFER

Multilayer carbon-based DLC coating characterised by excellent wear resistance and a very low friction coefficient.

Ideal for all applications involving dry or lubricated metal components in relative motion, with operating temperatures of less than 300°.

Engine applications: piston pins, pistons, piston rings, injectors, tappets, valve discs, camshafts, fork stems, gear selector forks.

CARBONLAFER (WC/C)

Self-lubricating multilayer coating based on tungsten carbide (W-C: H) and carbon. It has a low friction coefficient and good wear resistance.

Suitable for all applications involving dry or lubricated components in relative motion, with operating temperatures of less than 380°.

Engine applications: gear wheels, gear shafts.

NEW CHROME

High strength and high abrasion resistance chromium nitride (CrN) based coating for use with up to medium operating temperatures (<650°).

Suitable for all applications involving, preferably lubricated, components in relative motion

Engine applications: injectors, engine valves, gear selector forks, piston rings.

Multilayer carbon-based coating from a solid target characterised by high hardness and abrasion resistance. 

Suitable for all applications involving metal components in relative motion, with extremely high specific pressures and operating temperatures of less than 400°.

KRONOS

Multilayer chromium nitride and aluminium based coating characterised by high strength and high abrasion resistance even at high temperatures (<1100 °).

Suitable for all applications involving components in relative motion or stand-alone components exposed to high temperature gas flows. Engine applications: turbocharged engine valves.
