In the manufacturing and regeneration of gear-cutting tools, the main focus is on cutting performance.

Lafer has developed a work method to offer a full range of services covering de-coating, certified sharpening, rounding and cutting edge check, and coating of hobs, cutters and stick blades.

Pre- and post-coating surface preparation significantly improves the performance of the coating, and consequently of the tool.

HSS AND HM HOBS

When manufacturing gears in batches, the main goal is the quality of the surface finish of the finished part. This is achieved by reducing the hob’s wear and extending its service life.

Lafer provides a fast, high-quality service for solid bore and shank type hobs, allowing for direct management of all production stages directly in-house. Lafer’s coating guarantees an increase in cutting parameters

STRAIGHT AND HELICAL GEAR CUTTERS

For shaper cutter regeneration, and particularly for internal gear applications such as power skiving, Lafer has devised a sharpening and coating solution specifically for HM tools, which ensures optimal cutting edge rounding and tool finishing. 

In this industry, production processes are continuous, production time is short and cutting speed is high – the ultimate goal is to increase cutting precision, reduce maintenance downtime and improve process quality and productivity.

STICK BLADES

For the cutting of bevel gears, front gears, dog clutch gears, and for power skiving, Lafer offers a full range of services covering sharpening and coating on bars to ensure better finish and increased precision of the gears.  Moreover, our R&D team has developed a geometry-specific tooling for each stick blade, thanks to which we are able to coat the functional surface of the tool only, thereby preventing coating being deposited onto shanks, as this could affect tolerances. 

Bar coating, sharpening and profiling make it possible to work in demanding conditions and carry out dry gear-cutting processes too, thereby reducing cycle time and maintenance downtime.
